» Top 5 ways to get on the Digg FrontPage
When you've written an article that benefits other surfers, you want them to know, right? One way to go about this is to publish your article at Digg. Making it to their FrontPage would be totally awesome. Good content is the main thing there, but there are some other tips that can help you. I did quite a bit of research - so you don't have to - and this is my top 5.
1. Post on Thursday at 9:00 AM EST (GMT -5)
On average, Thursday seems to be the most active day. Avoid publishing on Monday & Sundays because then the percentage of stories making it to FrontPage is the lowest of all days.
93% of all Digg hits come from users located in Canada and USA, many office goers start digging as soon as they step in the office, and so posting at 9 AM greatly improves your change of making it to the FrontPage.
If you post at night, you're forgetting the other 7% of Digg users that may push your story out of the first Upcoming Stories page by the time you, and the majority of diggers, wake up. (research by duggtrends )
2. Comment on successful Digg articles
Comment on related articles that are on the already on the Digg FrontPage, or are moving up quickly and post a link to your site.
But make sure you are really adding value because spamming is in poor taste and you risk angry burials.
3. Create good content
There are some excelent tips to be found at A Comprehensive Guide to Going Viral on Digg
4. Integrate Digg within your website
Make it easy for readers to Digg your article.
5. Post in the Linux/Unix category
Only if your article is on this topic of course, we love Digg and we don't want to mess things up over there! But just so you know:
15% of stories submitted in Linux/Unix category has made it to home page 2nd and 3rd being new categories Educational Videos & Politics.
"Tech Industry News" is the most popular one with about 2184 stories submitted in one week, next being "World News" and is just about half of it.
Stories submitted in this category probably will have fewer chances to make it to FrontPage. Most of the time these stories get pushed back in Upcoming Stories within few minutes.
