A good way for sites or articles to get known is submitting to social bookmarking sites, so submitting should be as easy as possible for your visitors. But gathering information on the best social bookmarking sites, their icons, submission URLs, and ranking is quite a pain. And so I did it for you. I'll also give you a PHP example of how to integrate social bookmarking sites in your website.

The List

When using this list you have to replace the {url} and {title} variables with the right URL and title of the document that you're going to submit.
Though it's not an infallible method, I figured I had to use some kind of objective ranking, so I ended up ordering this list using Alexa.com's traffic rank (from August the 5th, 2007).

Now remember this is just an example, you should probably make it a little nicer with some extra tags, css, securty, etc. And don't forget add more social bookmarking sites from The List to the $social_sites array!

I dont get social bookmarking though, u provide a url to eg Digg, people then click on that link to add your article to that website in general (public), or to some kind of private bookmarklist on that site?

Actually for PHP you'll need to use rawurlencode() instead of urlencode() to handle all cases. For JavaScript you'll need encodeURIComponent() instead of encodeURI() to handle all cases.
