According to Mark Shuttleworth, founder of the Linux distribution Ubuntu, Dell is pleased with the demand for Ubuntu computers. The company has been distributing computers with Ubuntu since May this year and is planning to expand the Linux offerings.

More linux systems

Dell is satisfied about sales of Ubuntu-PC's so far and will therefore soon offer more preinstalled Linux Systems. Dell's Anne Camden has confirmed the story and said that Ubuntu-Dells are especially popular with open source fans.

According to Shuttleworth Dell will expand it's offerings in the next couple of months. Exactly how remains a secret but what Shuttleworth did make clear however is that in the near future there are no plans to close similar agreements with other big PC companies like HP.

Dell linux research

At the Ubuntu Live 2007 conference, Dell has announced that it will improve it's Linux research, especially in support for audio & video codecs, printers, wireless networking, tv-tuners, remote controls, lcd-tvs, projectors and 3D effects.

Amit Buthani, software engineer at Dell's Linux Development Group said that it's employer would very much like to see improvements on ATi products. Up to this moment Dell has only been able to deliver systems with nVidia cards because of the superior Linux support. Furthermore Amit said that Dell is aiming to offer Linux-products outside of the United States this summer.
